Lovely Bones

Always an opportunist, when asked to collaborate with Alta Interiors, I instantly thought a little bigger than I expect they were anticipating.
For months, I’d been looking for a bed and came up against various versions of boucle white curved headboard beds, from expensive to big-box stores, they were everywhere and considering how abundant they were, it seemed Australia couldn’t get enough. Alta-Interiors approached me, and frustrated with my bed hunt, instead of asking to make a stool or something small, I suggested we build a bed together.

The initial bed I designed was a masculine, modern, steel-framed bed with an upholstered headboard and built-in matching floating drawers, imagine a slightly futuristic design, but set in the 70’s. Unfortunately, the manufacturing and retail costs on this were huge, and so this idea was parked for the future (when my manufacturing budgets have increased!).
Creativity always brews under restraint though, so I changed my path, opted to purchase stainless steel bedsides (got my hit), and instead developed an upholstered bed that is very feminine leaning, a complete flip from my original idea. I wanted to create a shape I wasn’t seeing, curves, but in different places, and I added extra layers of detail in the form of fringing that elegantly grazes the floor.

The bed is titled Bones, which is something I wasn’t sure about for a while, “is that morbid?”. It’s titled after the Femur-esque curves of the bed base, which was a feature I loved as soon as I saw it getting shaped in the workshop, I was very particular about how slim the feet needed to be.
Bones is inspired by sleek 1950s spaces, vintage cinema, and the desire to create something uniquely feminine. A confident bed for those with refined tastes who seek something a little different. Bones is now available in four colourways with matching fringing and includes a matching luxurious bolster; the perfect decorative finisher. You can also request a custom fabric should you wish to make your Bones all yours.
